Jim,
What specifically are you looking for? (Okay, more or less specific). Might be able to suggest a couple places but it ain't gonna' be cheap....
Sam
*Hey Sam - what "...ain't gonna be cheap", the advice or the clamps? :-)Seriously, I'm tryin' to see what's available in small (maybe 1" piston) pneumatic clamps for replacing some manual ones I use now on cut off jigs. One would have to activate in a 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock motion, the other would just have to push horizontally - but it would need about 12" of throw. I have seen stuff like this on other machinery, but never played with it. JonC sent me a couple links that really helped and I am gathering info there. You guys probably use them a lot, huh? I think if they aren't too expensive, and reliable, they could open up a whole new way of jigging up for shaper work and such. - jb
*Jimbo,Go to Ask Jeeves (www.aj.com), type in "pneumatic clamps" then look under the Altavista matches. Hope this helps. Hope you're not working outside today....Jim
*Jim, I've got to check a couple of sources for what you've described; the 12" clamp might prove to be a problem unless you utilize a cylinder and devise something of your own making. Yeah, the advice will be cheap but not the clamps:) As for what we use, it's mostly hydraulic although the pneumatic stuff is used a bit. The hydraulic stuff makes the other stuff seem cheap by comparison....SD
*...hydraulics...oh man...you're talkin' some power there, huh? unbelievable what hydraulics can do. I don't need anything like that kind of strength, more along the lines of speed. Thanks for checkin' though bro.
*Safely ensconsed in the shop for a few more weeks, at least. How 'bout you Jim, you gonna be out in it this weekend?
*Yeah, out in it, but in Leavenworth, weather report sunny and cool. Got 5 windows and 2 doors left to install and the cabin/house is "weathered in" for the winter. Gonna buy 2 snowmobiles this weekend, so I hope to do a lot of "playing" over there this winter. jim
*Jimbo, Damn! has it been raining or what?!?! Pissing like a cow on flat rock.... Sam
*Time to break out the Rainskins for sure. Rubber boots too. JimL - you reminded me of my life long best buddy. He's got 4 kids and they have a cabin up in Maine. They bought a few used sleds and they go up to Maine and have a ball weekends. Now he says he really looks forward to winter instead of dreading it. I never owned one, but every time I've ridden, I've had fun.
*Seattle-area-ites. Just heard on the radio this morning, they're considering changing the Washington state flag to a big blue tarp.wetly, jim
*I've got a few of those around the place all right... Damn it's been wet. Supposed to clear up this weekend though. We'll see. Hey, did you buy that Hole Hawg? Or did you go with the Dewalt?
*Hi Sam, I'm going to get the Milwaukee right-angle unless someone talks me out of it. Did you buy anything yet? jim
*Check with these folks, their printed catalog has a bunch of different types of clamps. You might find their name on the manual clamps you're wanting to replace. Red handles on their stuff. Last forever I think. http://www.destaco.com/ Joe H
*Good link Joe, thanks.
*Jim, Nothing yet, been talking about the hole hawg for sometime though and noticed my wife ordered something the other day for Christmas. I have a feeling my mind was made up for me. Still wonderin' about that Dewalt though. At least the weather has let up a little. Sam
*Yeah, nice to get a break (it's been gettin' COLD at night though). You won't be disappointed if she did get you that drill, Sam. Just think about the spin, and always brace the handle against something when drilling. I've heard many a guy cuss those things, but never had a problem myself.
*did you get your jig built?
*Not yet. But I got to play with one of those clamps last weekend at a show, and they really do clamp, don't they.
*Jim, Yeah, I'm thinkin' it will work out just fine; like you said, just gotta' make sure it's braced. I'm always amazed by the amount of damage that can be done with last rotation after you release the trigger. Definitely be nice to have a break on those drills.... Hope the Holiday was good for you & Kathy, things here were great. Now, if I can just avoid the Riots.....Sam
*HOLY SMOKES! That looks eerily like the 60s. Be careful up there man. Anarchy.
