It only took a month, but I got my new Porter Cable circular saw back from the repair shop today. This was a “recalled” unit and I was told it simply needed a new blade guard (it was occasionally sticking in the open position). So, the shop in Boston sent it to a shop out of state somewhere because they were “backed up.” “Should be done in 10 days,” they said.
So, today, they handed me my saw and first off I noticed that my brand-new Freud Diablo framing blade was gone. Pissed me off! They gave me a new Dewalt one for free (after I complained). I also noticed that it’s a little more banged-up looking than when I took it in (was a fairly new saw) and the dust port nozzle was nearly impossible to turn. Also, the height adjustment is now a lot harder to adjust. Perhaps is just needs a squirt of oil, but you’d think they would have checked the whole thing over while they had it. I’m thinking I would have been better off not taking the saw in at all.
I asked the guys about the recall on the new Porter Cable routers. He pointed to a pile of brand-new replacements because the recalled routers are apparently non-fixable. Unreal!
I’m really down on Porter Cable now. Wishing I’d bought the Milwaukee (or at least an older PC before Black and Decker bought them out). But now I hear Milwaukee just got bought by TTI. TTI is the same company that makes the Ryobi crap. Oh well.

It sounds to me like you go the wrong saw back. You sure they didn't get them mixed up. And I definatley wouldn't stand for anything less then the blade I sent it out with.
Switch repair shops and tell them why.
Ugha Chaka! Ugha Chaka! Ugha, Ugha, Ugha, Chaka!
I'm sure it's my saw. I had one of those red, velcro cable ties on the cord.TFToolfanatic (a.k.a. The man formerly known as "Toolfreak")
Boy that sounds like a lousy experience. At that point, I would have been disgusted enough to just return the saw and start over I think. Was this a PC service center, or a homegrown tool repair shop? If it were a homegrown tool shop, I'd expect much better service than that or they would lose my business in a New York second. If it were a big company service center, I wouldn't be as surprised but I would tell them to keep their POS saw to go along with their crappy service.
Boston, huh? What's the name of the shop?
This was the DeWalt service center in Brighton, MA. Since the B&D buyout of PC/Delta, they're now servicing those tools as well. TFToolfanatic (a.k.a. The man formerly known as "Toolfreak")
I looked at all of the brands, including the PC and Milwaukee, for use with an EZ-Guide, and finally decided on the Hitachi with brake. NICE saw - worth every dime of the $80 I paid for it.
Not a bad price. I dneed to dedicate one to EZ. How is the match? Does it rip two bys?

why did you give it to him with the blade on.. 2+3=7
why did you give it to him with the blade on.
Ya, that's what I was thinking but I'm leaning towards the idea he didn't get his origonal saw back.
I always keep serial#s when I send something out.

Ditto.
Because I'm an utter moron! Didn't even think about it. Also didn't know they were going to send it to PA to get fixed.TFToolfanatic (a.k.a. The man formerly known as "Toolfreak")
You can! They've got a few for sale on e-bay that look almost new.TFToolfanatic (a.k.a. The man formerly known as "Toolfreak")
It'll rip 2x, but I haven't tried it on anything else that thick. The main purpose was for cutting ply down to size for cabinet carcases.
I did have an impossible time getting the 2-sided tape to stick to whatever the base material is on that saw. I finally gave up and used the bolts only. Seems to be fine.
FWIW, I got the saw on eBay from a vendor who specializes in used and refurb Hitachi. The description claims it was used, but I doubt it - there wasn't a scratch on it and the blade was a brand new Hitachi blade. I also have a Milwaukee Tilt-Lock saw that I thought would be better suited for regular cutting.
Hate to tell you this, but you'll soon be taking your Hitachi saw to the B&D service center when it breaks. Word is there's a buyout on the horizon.TFToolfanatic (a.k.a. The man formerly known as "Toolfreak")
I warned about PC at least five years ago on this site.
PC went to hell in the 70's when they sold out to Rockwell. It's been all downhill since then.
American junk.

I wouldn't say that. I have an older 690 router that is built like a tank.TFToolfanatic (a.k.a. The man formerly known as "Toolfreak")
