Western Contractors Supply

DML | Posted in General Discussion on June 29, 2006 04:57am

Has anyone had a call from Western Contractors Supply ?

These guys say they’re based in Arizona selling tools, at low prices. They call up like they’re a friend of mine chatting about the weather etc.

I told this guy I’m not interested and to remove my number, normal procedure for any cold call, a week later he calls back, same thing, then again for I’m sure how many times. At the end I left him in little doubt there was no sale going to happen, three words the first one starting with F the last word being die. He then calls me back straight away and again a week later. I hang up, then an hour later his buddy calls, I get a number from them and starting asking questions, he makes some weird noise hangs up then calls back two minutes later.

They’re obviously scammers, but I want to track these guys down and make complaints about them, so was wondering if anyone else had and info or similar experiences.

I found this as well, call the number and it says 'This voice mail box has not been set up yet'.

I only use suppliers that don't have a working phone system.

      I'm guessing counterfeit tools.

They call me periodically. I never buy anything. I've told them numerouis times that I'm going out of business, shutting down, and that I make my guys buy their own supplie. They still call back. Now I just hang up.

The Magic Phrase is ask to be put on the NO CALL LIST.

The Telephone Consumers Protection Act (IIRC that is the name) requires companies to maintain a No Call List.

And they have to make available documentation about their no call list and how they maintain it.

If they call you after you tell them to be put on the no call list you can sue for statutory damages of $500 each time.

And also for $500 if they don't make available documentation on their no call list.

I did that on the first call, the second call and the third call, then I tried the F*** off and die. It has amazed me why a so called salesman would waste so much time calling back an individual who is clearly not going buy anything, now I just want to cause them trouble.

These guys are obviously a scam business, at this point I'm trying to go after them. I logged a complaint on the FCC Do Not Call Website, but I would like to also see if anyone else had info and maybe also notify the Attorney Generals offices and the FTC.

Is that valid for business lines? We had many blissful years of no sales calls, then I switched our line to a business line so that I could have a phone book listing in the company name (unfortunately I need that), and now I get lots of sales calls, including from the arseholes in AZ. I always hang up immediately on every sales call. For some reason my wife thinks I should talk politely to them.

answering machine & calerr ID with namethen only answer the calls you want.while we are on the no call list, we stil get calls from places. If you have done business with them they can call you.we let the answering machine answer if the caller is unknownm, private etc.also we can set our phone ringtones for different phone numbers so we set it for those we know.

I am not sure, but I think that it is. The FAX part of it definitly covers business.Note that this the the Telephone Consumers Protection Act dated around 1992. It is different from the federal No call List. However, I don't know if anything in the law for the No Call List might have changed the Telephone Consumers Protection ACt.

This is the first year I put in a yellow pages ad and I would say 1/3 of the calls are from businesses trying to sell me something unsolicited. I use my personal cell phone as my business line, the number was listed (without my asking) in business directories like Yahoo, other yewloow pages as soon as I filed the papers to start the business.I usually ask the question, male or female, what color is your underwear? Gets most of em off the line pretty quick.

        1. davidmeiland | Jun 30, 2006 03:54am | #15

That's an incredibly polite response by my standards. I've said some things to marketers that are entirely unprintable.

        2. craigf | Jun 30, 2006 04:24am | #16

A friend of mine does something more devious. If its a male, then he rambles on about nothing in particular, avoiding talking about the product. It puts the telemarketer in a bind. They don't know whether to hold on through a pointless converstaion for the chance of a sale or bail out. He'll show just enough interest to waste alot of time, then abruptly thank them for calling and hang up.Never hears from them again. If its a female he does the same thing, but flirts with her in a way that isn't obscene but uncomfortable. In the middle of the sales pitch-"You got a reaaal purrty voice"They don't know whether to play along for the sale or not.

      anybody here live in AZ...

they could stop by and take pictures...

post 'em really make an effort to get the word out...Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming<!----><!----><!---->

      WOW!!! What a Ride!<!----><!---->

Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!

I would get a call from them every other month wanting to sell me cases of saw blades, sawzall blades and extension cords.

Id ask how many to a case? reply was 50 to a case.Well even when i was on a framing crew i dont think we went thru 50 saw blades a year.

but what realy got me was extension cords, 50 of them, Are you joking me?

Slick salesman though, had a reply for every answer.

Ya, I've heard from them too. When I get calls like that I tell them the line is a bit scratchy and could they hold while a pick up the line on the office phone. They, and most other sales types, always say yes so I put the phone's handset in the drawer and carry on with my normal activities until I hear the off hook signal from the hand set. That little trick does two things; one, it pisses them off like they did me and two, it keeps them busy for two or three minutes till they figure it out that they've been had. During that two minutes the cost is on their dime and they can't be bothering anyone else. Just killed two birds with one stone!

I'll share this with you but don't tell anyone else about it!

After periodic calls from some guy who'd call at 6 AM as I'm heading out the door, come on like we're great buds and all and then hit me with "What kind of sawblades are you using?" I prepared a response for the next time, which, for some reason, was the last call I ever received from them:

Him:  "What kind of sawblades you using?"

Me:  "The kind for a saw that you don't have blades for."

Him:  "Oh. What kind of saw would that be?"

Me:  "The kind you stick up your A$$!"

    He hung up on me....

i know a guy that when telemarketers calls. Starts in asking "do you know Jesus as your savior?" He says that gets rid of them really fast. of course if they reply "no" he is more than happy to discuss a plan for their salvation.
