Wet Head Warrior or plumbers HELP!!!!!

MisterT | Posted in General Discussion on June 8, 2003 02:59am

Last sunday I spent the day unclogging my sewer line.

I got about 16 foot of snake in but my line goes out the back of my house and turns twice and goes along side the house to the sewer in front.

2 bottles of Rooto got every thing flowing fine and we didnt have a problem all week.

Well my son jus flushed the uptsairs  toity and I herad the downstairs one doing the gurgles.

now it is backed up again!!!

Is this just because tomorrow is sunday and i will have to pay 90$ an hour???

Help!!

Sounds like you got a vent clogged. Work your snake upstream (down the roof vent opening). But a completely full waste pipe will cause that sound too.

If you have a number of turns in the outside line you might need to find the cleanout that is suposed to be just outside the house or dig up the line and put one in. Do you think you might have a root problem somewhere down the line? What did you find stuck to the end of your snake the first time you cleared the clog? From the outside you can make a bigger mess with a bigger power snake.<G> How old are your kids and what are they flushing down the loo?

I never got to the clog with the snake.

2 doses of the drain cleaner got it working and I thought all was well.

I just bit the big one and called the Ribble rooter.

There is a cleanout out in the back yard facing the road but there was no water backing up there.

There is was a depression in the backyard inline with where the line exits the house.

I dug down 4 ft but didn't find any thing.

I couldnt get the snake past the first elbow so I'm thinkin the clog must be between there and the clean out.

I DON'T want to dig up my yard!!!

but ya gotta do what ya gotta doodoo!!!

save yourself a lot of bucks and grief.  get a blow bag and use it.  make sure you are past ALL wyes before you turn the pressure on.  then after you are back in business you can take the time to make a decision on what to do to solve the problem without being pressured into it.  I do this for clients at times and they appreciate it so much they will usually pay me to fix it later.

Could it be......... that at one time you had a septic tank that was collapsed and filled and the plumber just made a connection to the outfall and then a U-turn to go to the city sewer connection? The depression you noted might be the settling, over time, of uncompacted fill. That would also be a likely place for a failed coupling, improper elbow (sweep), and of course two right angle turns do slow sh!! and stuff down to a crawl.

Now don't get mad at the kid or he'll be stopped up too.

    ;)

I'll be ebtting that you have 90° turns and not enough drop to flow good and that mama or junior is using the king size wads of TP.

It's too late to teach mama to be consevative but junior could learn the GI method and get down to using only one square of TP, LOL.

if these are 90° elbows, you might as well plan on digging to get to the root of the problem.

    .

    Excellence is its own reward!

where do you get Sunday calls at that low rate?

can you install a C/O outside?  If you have a pro come over have them camera the line.  That will revela your problem.  Septic or city sewer?

btw, chemical cleaners only clean the tiny bit that they touch as they flow through.  use Bio-Clean.  It will clean everything but it takes time.

      Man you said it!!!

      90$ was just a guess.

Called the local guy with adds on tv.

      140$ min for sunday "appearance"

120$ more if he has to use the power snake

Then when I described the situation he said that he would likely have problems with the turns and may not accomplish anything.

so I told him to go fishing.

But after fighting with a snake and and all that $hit (Even though mine doesn't stink) I see why they get the big$$$

You guys can all stop worrying about me!

The Roto rooter man just left and everything is working dandy!

I have never been so glad to right a 160$ check!

This guy has been doing it for 38 years and had actually worked on my house for the two previous owners.

Paper had acumulated in a low spot and solidified.

Boy my $hit does stink after all!!!!

I agree with Ralph--it sounds like a vent problem from the remote gurgling. Go up on the roof and check to see nobody's built a nest or something on or in it.

A few questions occur to me: Do your other household drains drain well or is it only the toilet(s)? Do you get gurgling in the kitchen sink trap when someone yanks the chain?

If all drains are slow and/or gurgling is generalized but the vent stack is clear, bite the bullet and rooter-scooter it out.

But wait till Monday; a large bucket of sawdust with a paint stick in it for stirring works quite well as an emergency privvy and you won't smell a thing. Of course, it's not too comfortable for reading the sports page, but you can't have everything....
