New hardware store is opening up and I was in today. Looks like it is going to be good,
A large compliment of DW, tools, with a significant number of Milwaukee (seems that they are going to be HD exclusive) and some Mikita and only a few Skil and Firestorm.
Anyway I was looking at the hardware and they had boxes of Lath Screws.
Both sharp point for wood/metal studs and self drilling for metal studs.
#8 in a range of sizes from 1″ to 2″.

I have never seen these before.
What are they used for?

For gutter, electrical fixtures & window frames
Basicly, they are general purpose screws with a round washer head. They are not made to countersink like drywall, wood, or deck screws, so they are better for mounting a metal box to a stud. Or mount a new construction window or retrofit window to studs.
Also great for fastening wood near the ends. It holds flat like a nail head, instead of wedging the fibers and grain apart with a countersink head. #8 is too thin for structural use though.

Can be used for lath. Wire lath on steel studs. I always have a box or three for screwing things to the side wall ribs of my van and hanging stuff from the doors.
They also are real good at flipping sideways off the driver tip and letting you stab your screwholding finger with a #2 phillips tip..matter of fact, they EXCEL at that.

"Wire lath on steel studs."Ah!Kept thinking of wood lath. That is not used any more and it did not make any sense.Probably should get box. I usually get by with using flat heads for mounting brackets and the like that the OP mentions..
