I am going to insulate with cellulose and need your input on what type of barrier is needed. The exterior is Hardy plank with 6″ reveal over OSB with the reflective insulation on one side. Do I need a vapor barrier on the outside of the OSB, which one?? Do I need a barrier between the studs and the OSB?

Where do you live?

*My understanding is that the vapor barrier goes on the warm side of the insulation i.e. inside, and the windstop or housewrap goes on the exterior sheathing. But what do I know?
*Ivan,You may get more response posting this question over in the "Energy,Ventilation, Insulation, ect..." Topic area. I have used cellulose in the homes I built for the last 16 years. It is important not to use any "vapor barrier" at all with cellulose. Air ceiling work, along with an air tight insulation like cellulose, is all the vapor barrier you will ever need. This has been argued many times in many forums, but from experience, I can tell you it is the truth. The cellulose dries over time, and becomes more effective over time. If you place a plastic vapor barrier over it, it will trap moisture in the wall system. If you must place a vapor barrier in the wall system, let the cellulose dry for a few weeks (or months) until a moisture meter reading is at 10% to 12% or less in the stud cavities. I'm sure you will receive ideas contrary to mine, so good luck and good building.
*Just finished M.A.Snyder's piece on rain screen walls. Made me wonder, if the wood augers/tannins in the cedar are damaging to the house wrap, hats gonna happen to all those walls I've covered with countless thousands of entreated red and white cedar shingles?
*Probably nothing. The shingles are a semi-permeable membrane too. I wud think the walls would breathe even better than before, though they might get slightly draftier.A friend's mother (who is very wise) told me once not to borrow trouble I couldn't pay back.
