I am going to be upgrading a ten year old forced air gas furnace later this year, along with the central A/C. We will add in zoned ductwork to our 1916 bungalow.
Is there a difference between brands? Do you have any general recommendations of brands?
I would prefer to pick my equip, ment and then seek out qualified contractors.

Forced air gas.
90+ or standard ?
American Standard, Trane , Heil (Tempstar), York and Carrier all make good units. You will get good and bad opinions on all of them, but overall those five have good reliability. Look for a scroll compressor in any a/c unit. The compressor may not be of the same manufacturer as the unit. Even the big 3 are using Copeland scroll compressors in thier residential units now. Maybe watch out for anything with a Techumsea (sp) compressor right now....they seem to be in one of thier problem phases agian.

I'd do my home work, keep your information close to your heart,, Call your HVAC's, and ask them what brands do they install. For whoever you choose, they are going to want to install their brands, that they stock/service/install. ,Good Luck, Jim J
