I have an existing standard stucco finish on a small home (3 coat, no paint). I would like to find a product that I could apply directly over the existing color coat to get a very smooth plaster like finish. Anyone have any ideas, or no how I might go about this?
Thanks
Charles

Charles,
Could you possibly reword this. I'm having trouble trying to imagine what it is you want to do.

I do not particularly like the what I would consider the standard sand finish on stucco. What I want to do is trowel over my existing stucco sand finish, with something? to create a very smooth plaster (interior smooth trowel finish) or limestone looking finish. I want to know how I might go about doing this?
Thanks Mark

Is this painted at the moment or just a colour coat as in tinted render?
How course a finish is it at the moment?

Mark,
No it is not painted just the stucco color coat. I dont know the correct terminology, but I would say the individual bumps (grains) are about 1/4" in dia. so fairly coarse...

Charles,
This is not a job for a DYI. Unless you have a reasonable amount of experience with rendering ( and I'm guessing you don't or you wouldn't be asking this ) you really need to call in the trades.
Without seeing the job, it sounds like it needs a skim coat to bring up the finish you are after.
First they will probably put on a "key coat" to help the next coat bond. Then depending on the coarseness of your current coat, will either go one or two coats to finish.Final finish will be with a steel float polish by the sound of what you want.
*Pool plaster is mixed with marble dust instead of sand and is quite smooth. It could, I'm sure, be textured like interior plaster. This would not be a DIY project.
