What happens when ridge vents get covered with snow?

Hi, I’m building a garage and am just about done, but I want to put ridge vents on. However, I live in a very snowy area. My question is, how would a ridge vent work when covered with snow. Since the air flow would be blocked, they’re useless in the winter. So would it be better to install box vents that have a higher peak and thus won’t so easily be blocked with snow?

"Very snowy" is relative
"Very snowy" is relative (especially this year), but it's been my experience, here in southern Minnesota, that the ridge generally blows clear in a few days.
