The answer to the question may seem simple BUT, having had this system installed just last fall, this is the first summer we face with it in place. It worked great all winter, but the thermostats did not seem to be controlling the systems as well as I would like – even given the normal lag time between thermostat reduction and response that is normal with radiant systems.
As we approach the summer months, it has become clear that the thermostats are not working correctly or I’m just missing some critical factor here. I have 10 electronic (signal controlled) thermostats that transmit to 4 Wirsbo Genius Boxes located at four of the six manifolds throughout the house.
On May 1, 2001 I turned all of the thermostats down to 40 degrees Fahrenheit. There has been no reduction in the heat output since then. The system is still heating the house to at least 72 degrees (and sometimes to 76/77 on days when the outside temperature did not even get above 62 degrees). I am left with no choice but to turn off both the supply and return lines at each manifold as we are facing 90 degree weather very soon.
Might this be a case of the electronic thermostats being unreliable? Or am I looking at a problem with the controls for the whole system?
I would appreciate any help in determining what the real problem is here. Thanks for the consideration.
