million dollar home under construction. This is in the rear of the house in the tub/bath/walk in closet room. This is the walk in closet. What you see is the crawl space / ground.
This does not show on the drawings for the home.
What is it?
– Place for an in floor safe (cover it with a rug?)
– a secret escape from the house?

Crawl space access?
in ground safe?
Both. Id have one if I was building it. Damn smart idea.
The opening scene of the movie "Saving Private Ryan" is loosely based on games of dodgeball Chuck Norris played in second grade.
Looks like a standard crawl space access. We see them all the time here in LA on raised foundation houses with wood floors.
In Philly, that's where they dump the bodies. Standard feature of every new house. Just before settlement, it gets concrete to close it up.

A safe cut out for shure. I'll wager a few measurements will coincide with a standard floor safe. IIRC 14x14 is a good size.
