Hi guys,
Would like a little input. Got a potential client whose house has walnut colored baseboard. Its 3-1/2 inch high, colonial style. All door casing is 2-1/4 inch colonial style. Client wants to rip out all trim (base & door jamb & door casing) and install new trim, same sizes but lighter (golden oak stain) color. All trim is oak and will be replaced with oak.
I have a good concept of what to charge per door unit installation, but am uncertain what a fair rate would be for tearing out and re-installing new base trim. What would be a good price to charge based on Lineal feet?
I’m looking at replacing approx 400 to 500 lin. ft. of base trim. All trim will be prestained and finished by a factory supplier. I’m looking at only installing and puttying where needed. Will be using chopsaw and brad nailer.
Davo.

FWIW, you will probably spend as much time carefully removing the old trim so as not to damage the walls as you would installing new. And there will be nail pulling, cleanup and oops fixing too. Charge at least your regular per foot, or however you do it, installation price for the removal. That's also a lot of trim you could salvage for another job down the road.
*Some base and trim mouldings are made with deep grooves. These take longer to paint or stain than the ones with shallow or no grooves because brushes rollers etc don't want to reach the bottom ...unless you're spraying finish before installing, allow extra for fighting with deep grooves. Better to avoid if possible
*Davo...I'm with Ralph...installation cost x 2
