Hi All,
We are in the process of designing a new house and I’ve started looking at appliances. I love the “professional-style” ranges — like from Wolf, Viking, etc. BUT — I know that manufactures like KitchenAid also make similar ranges for a much lower cost. Any thoughts on why someone would go for the high-end ranges over the others? Do they offer additional features you just can’t live without? Any preferences for a particular brand and model?
Thanks!

Dear Suzanne,
I can't answer your question, but I thought you might be interested to know that there are some discussions of pro ranges over on the Cooks Talk forum. Click on Cooks Talk in the tool bar at the top right of the page, select read, and then go down through the folders to the Equipment folder. When you select the Equipment folder you should see a couple of discussion headings for pro ranges.
Not that you won't get your answer here, but it's another source that you can use.
Consumer Reports did a comparison of ranges in their August 2002 issue. I remember that they created two kitchens with the same high-end look-- one was much more expensive than the other. Your local library would probably have a copy of the issue or you can try to find it at http://www.consumerreports.org.
