Couple years back I saw advertised somewhere what I would call a power handsaw. About the size of a toolbox handsaw but with a powered reciprocating motion. Don’t remember if it was corded or cordless. At the time, I thought who needs this? Now I have a use for one, but local HD or Menards doesn’t have one, nor Amazon. Have these disappeared, or are they available somewhere?

Have you thought about a Fein?
I think you're talking about the Bosch Power Handsaw. I've been thinking about one myself. They look like they might be handy.
If I remember correctly they're about $100.
Played with one the other day. Looks interesting. Good for flush cuts, blade is rigid and wide so it tracks straight. The gotcha is the price of the replacement blades. I suppose we could relearn the lost art of sharpening saw blades instead of tossing them.
like this?

Have used that Bosch saw...the guy that owned it said it was a jamb saw..he bought it while in California. I looked them up on the Bosch website and they're available although I have never seen one at any of the box stores.......
If you aren't one of the one's I'm talking about, you shouldn't have any complaints....
