Hey guys,
Now I know many of you know my business is tanking and I really appreciate the advice and info many of you have offered. It just looks like theres no way I can keep going at my current path. I’ve been trying to buy groceries on my good looks but they’re charging me extra.
OK, now enough of the belly-aching…
My question is what do I do know? I know, I know that is really vague but I’m at a loss here. Do I try to go a totally different direction with a new business (maybe just building cupolas or something 180 degrees from what I’m doing now) or do I go out and look for a job? Looking for a job is just so scary as my experience with people seeing you were self-employed and now looking is that you will be a hard employee to control. I mean, I have a state contractor license and all but there is still such a negative connotation in the “established” workplace of those renegade loner contractors now looking to be team players. And to complicate it, relocation is not an option as the wifey has a job shes been at for a while. I could go out a swing a hammer for someone else but thats not going to pay more than what I’m making now.
I realize this is mostly a personal question but I’m open to ANY comments. I don’t know anyone in my area who is in my shoes. Most friends have great jobs so they have no idea what its like to be looking up from the employment pile instead of looking down. And most folks think after 8 years doing this, I’m “in”…I’ve made it. Whew, what a surprise.
Thanks for the ear and the opinion.
Mike
