What to do with a messed up the door

| Posted in General Discussion on November 25, 2001 08:59am

*
So I went to blows today and bought a couple of interior doors (hadda try out my new templaco door jig) so i find out mama is going shopping with her friends. Cool i thought, So Im home with the babies trying to plane this door to fit a existing jamb w/ one eye on the babies who are 2 of the cuteist little girls 3&4 y.o. who happen to fight all the time so I constantly got to watch them and listen to them cry ect, so due to lack of attention to the door I route the hinges on the wrong side (backsets should of been the opposite sides I think I can salvage it a little puddy and paint so I continue and plane to fit the door well needless to say I over plane the door ( i think thats when they were fighting over bugsy our rabbit).so the the door is messed up. At least I can practice with my new jig and go buy another door so what do I do with the one I messed up ?

Keep planing until it is the next size down and bring it back to blows. They wont know the difference. ;)

*If they won't take it back, cut it up and make a little house for Bugsy.

*Don't suppose your situation would allow you to make the openings a little smaller? You say they're existing openings, but don't give much detail...........

*Give it a really sloppy white paint job, put some legs on it, and sell it on e-bay as a "shabby-chic" coffee table.

*Oh my, that would be simply a-door-able.

*A little well placed duct tape, and it'll be fine.Or, you could just glue all your planings back on, one at a time.

*Ron, shave it down square edges and get some stickers folded over the edges so it looks untouched. Take both back and play stupid. By now you must be feeling sufficiently stupid? Just don't bust up laughing when they ask you if you want more doors or your money back. Joe HPS: I've got one real nice (and only a little too small) door in stock. Someday I'll find a hole it fits.

*Guys I know I could get away with taking it back to blows but I just dont feel its right takeing something I messed up back like that unless their return policy allows it like the HD used to. But I think i will go check out their return policy hehehehehe

*Ron,Take it back to Home Depot. Then you'll be even with them.I learned long ago not to do something serious while distracted like that. I was laying out and cutting stringers for a set of stairs and kept reminding myself that I needed to take another 7/8" off the bottom after a trial fit to allow for the treads.I was working right in a traffic path because that was the only place close to them available so all the other guys kept coming through. And I was the supervisor on job so I had a question to answer every few minutes too. Then I had a few phone calls to attend to. End of day they looked pretty good. Next day, they were setting 7/8" too low. I had cut them off twice without remembering it!Enjoy those offspring! Most valuable thing in the world.

*yea i know piffin the little monkies drive me crazy but when theyre not around maybe gone somewhere with the wife for a while and the house is quiet i really really notice it and feel something is missing in my life. my little one is the smartest and most independant of the bunch shes getting into everything. I tell you one thing I do in the morning before I leave the house at 5am to go work is to make my rounds and kiss each one goodbye. their sleeping they dont kno2w it but i do and that makes a difference to me.

*Piffin's got the best idea. Take it back to HD. Joe H
