What to do with the extra seats?
Comptem[latig a used E350 window van, but I only want 1 of the 3 bench seats. Not

they used to sell well, but not that many vans around with seats anymore. best use i have found is a shop seat! other than that i take the bottom frame work off of them that snaps to the floor, with great intentions of some sort of cabinet that snaps to the floor.haven't done it yet and the vans a bout wore out.
before you throw make sure that you are going to run it till it dies,it will affect the value when you sell.
oh depending on what part of the country your in,the make swell front porch seating...............................
if a man speaks in the forest, and there's not a woman to hear him,is he still wrong?
I know what you mean. I have one seat at the shop and three at home in the garage. Of course you cant throw them out cause who'd buy a passenger van with no seats?
Maybe a new business idea. People can pay me to stock their unused van seats.
Family.....They're always there when they need you.
The kids need a clubhouse seat, don't they?
Welcome to the Taunton University of Knowledge FHB Campus at Breaktime. where ... Excellence is its own reward!
Well... at least I'm not alone. lol. Maybe I can donate some cool "fort seats" to the
youth group at Church. I don't have a porch or a deck yet... so that idea's out.
Need to buy the van, get the seats out, and get crack a lackin'.

possibly seen the light of vans over trucks
Early on in my framing career I bought a long bed Dodge Van. It came only with the two seats up front. I eventually removed the passenger seat and I could slide my 28' extension ladders inside and shut the doors....SWEET! The biggest benefit is that guys stopped asking me to ride in with me. I'm not anti social but those guys yap too much. I need that time riding in the worktruck to plan my day.
Never heard anyone else say that. I too relish the alone time to and from work. I hate acting as taxi on top of boss.
Although I have 5 bundles of joy to come home to. You probably like the alone time for differetn reasons.

I used to travel from Sterling Heights to West Bloomfield via M59. It was a 45 minute commute. I did that for so many years that I actually liked it and found myself confused when I only had to travel 15 minutes. The 45 minutes was needed by me to let the work day go and just get home to my family life. I'd solve all the world problems in my head as I drove and in the commute to work I'd plan all my work day and presort out the problems. I prefer five minute commutes now.
I lIve in Redford, and cannot stand driving anywhere north of 8mile!What a traffic pain in the butt.I work alot in Plymouth/Canton/Novi areas and that's a lot easier to get to.Heck - I'd rather drive out to Ann Arbor than work a job in Troy.JT
"I lIve in Redford, and cannot stand driving anywhere north of 8mile!"I live near Fenton and can't stand driving east of US23!also would rather drive to Ann Arbor. Why did this subject come up?oh wellGK
Sounds like good front porch seating, depending on which side of the Mason-Dixon line you're on.

My 2 extra van seats have been sitting in my basement for 10 years. Except for maybe once or twice a year, when I have to transport a bunch of people for church or golf, they stay there.
If you come up with any good ideas, let me know.
Set em in the front yard, so you can sit there and wave at people as they go by.
I use a chevy window van. I held on to the seats for a year and then dumped them. I looked on ebay and there were three sets at stupid low prices (not even $100 for 4 rows) and did not sell. I can use the space!
I intend to use the van till the end of time. I also pulled the rails from the floor and this gives a touch more height inside and a flat floor to use. I lined this with 1/4" hardboard and the gray mats from pepboys. Next step will be to fit the inside with better storage. Still thinking about what will be best. Any ideas?
Nobody askes anymore for free rides. Its bad enough with the mini van.
I got the window van because it came with ABS, traction control, cloth seats, rear heat/AC, remote locks standard.
Only thing I would like, is a bench seat for the front like in a pickup. Just seems odd a van is a 2 seated. Check out the Euro vans. Even the sprinter got changed to 2 seat for the USA.

"Only thing I would like, is a bench seat for the front like in a pickup. Just seems odd a van is a 2 seated. Check out the Euro vans. Even the sprinter got changed to 2 seat for the USA"Why do you prefer bench seats? I like having the space between the seats for more storage. I always planned to make an "office" center console for laptop, prints, printer, plans, books, etc. but then my two labs wouldn't fit so well. I don't think they would fit if I had a bench seat either.Just a note...I also enjoy my alone driving time but for a couple of months I had a job where I was the passenger (usually) and the drive was 1.5 hr each way. Sometimes we would chat but If I wanted to, I would pull out my laptop and browse the internet (especially CL for deals in the vicinity of the jobsite) we even hooked the laptop up to the truck radio via a FM modulator to listen to internet radio instead of commercial radio...you can get comedy stations, better talk radio, and more all commercial free on the net. If you guys don't have a laptop (or iphone) without cellular broadband then you are not doing yourselves justice.
No real preference to a bench seat, just once in a while I need room for 3.
I already build a between the seats box for my important junk.

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking me to elaborate on, but I can give alot of reasons for a carpenter to have a laptop with a mobile internet connection...1.)I am able to conduct a huge amount of business at work ( at the jobsite ) that I would have normally had to wait until I got home to do...If I wasn't too tired by then and if I remembered. Many of my clients now don't want to talk on the phone so much as to correspond through email. Furthermore, many designers like to pass information such as drawing changes and site photos via flash drives. I have one also.2.)Change order needed in the morning? I can use Sketchup, Autocad, Word, and Excel and email full drawings, estimate, summary, and sign off sheets to the homeowner and suppliers and be back in business by the end of lunch. In the past we would just have to move on to a different task or play the wait game.3.)Got a new client to meet with in a new area and got lost on the way to the first meeting; I sure have. Pull over, take a breath, and use GoogleMaps or Mapquest to get the right route.4.)Need to rent scaffolding or find a plumber in a fix? No need to carry a stack of phone books for all the areas you work in ( I used to carry six) just punch it into the google machine and get the phone number and maybe a website. Might not even need to call the rental yard to see what they have in stock.5.)Same goes for product manuals. Who lost the install manual for the fancy new electronic faucet? Who cares; Go to their website and download a PDF.6.)As far as music goes, I control the music on the job, no more annoying morning shock jocks and repeat radio commercials. I can listen to commercial-less internet radio that is local or from Johannesburg. I can get an all blues station or a jazz station. OR I can turn on iTunes and listen to my own collection of 8000 songs.7.)Also don't forget that I am able to keep a calendar, an address book, a portfolio on my laptop to access at moments notice. 8.)I can use Wikipedia to call out that BS'n painter who thinks he knows everything but never has his facts straight. "Look, Larry, you are wrong...It says right here that China is NOT the worlds #1 exporter"9.)Most importantly, I can get BT answers to carpentry's most bizarre questions whenever I need a problem solved.
Tell me a bit more about internet radio. My laptop sound system sucks though. I can hardly hear a youtube joke.
Oh, sorry...Well, for a jobsite or in the car, you first have to get an FM modulator (about $20 at Walmart) that broadcasts the computer's sound to an FM station that can be picked up by any radio in a 10 foot radio. In fact, you don't HAVE to have a computer. The FM modulator can hook up to an iPod or other MP3player as it just needs a headphone jack. From there, I simply use either Windows Media or iTunes, both of which have a "Radio" option. The stations are organized by genre: talk, blues, electronic, world beat, politics, and of course comedy. But again, you must understand that I have a cellular internet connection.Oh, and most broadcast radio stations are also available to listen to online (at slightly reduced clarity). Comes in handy when a game is on but the stupid radio won't pick it up because the job is a basement remod in the woods..At home and once in a great while at work, I forgo the FM modulator and go with an Apple Airport Express. It allows me to broadcast music up to 50 feet (maybe more). Then I can keep the 'puter in the office while I jam out in the garage. I hope I answered your question.GK
Thanks, I'm going to start educating myself about online radio listening. I'd like to hear some of the Detroit games and they don't play them much here in TX.
Why in the world would you WANT to listen to Detroit games!?!?Although I'm not a super sports fan, I know we are doing HORRIBLE this year. But if you must, try 97.1 "The Ticket" They are the best online Detroit radio station.

You're just being too negative. The Lions are 0-7, which is only a little worse than they normally are. In their great years, they win 4 so this year they aren't great LOL. The Pistons and Redwings are doing fine. MSU is doing okay.

Got a porch?
Want some seats?
LOL
Now you've got me thinking of a porch swing!
Set 'em in the street and tell the insurance company that someone stole the rest of the van. :)
back in 90 i had my areostar van stolen. they used it for loading stuff from about 6 other burglaries. when i found it they had thrown the seats so they would have more room. plus they burned up the trannie for me......................if a man speaks in the forest, and there's not a woman to hear him,is he still wrong?
Stuff them into wall cavities when the homeowner is not looking. ;o)
Thermal mass and sound attenuation, great idea!
I thought it was funny when I posted it, because of that thread on junk being put in wall cavities... but then nobody got it... too many threads maybe. You got it aye?
Stuff them into wall cavities when the homeowner is not looking. ;o)
I got it too. I thought it was funny, I just didn't have anything clever to add so I just laughed alone... you didn't need reassurance, did you? :-)
Well is was both an inside joke and a hijack, so I did not expect too much. Thought it might be worth a few chuckles.be grinnin'
"Stuff 'em into the wall cavities when the homeowner is'nt looking..."Nearly peed myself on that one!
I got it too and chuckled. Couldn't find something funny to add, other than I was
eyeballing the space under the basement stairs.
