That spout keeps them sealed up until you pour. Then, you catch the edge of the spout on the mouth of your gas tank and it opens the valve.
Helps keep water out and gas fumes in!
That is the portrayed benefit.............
However, when you have to cramb that spout into a tank, there's no way to see the level to pour to.
Sure, it's supposed to stop filling........................but unlike a gas pump that stops the flow, you pull off and what happens? gas all over the tank.
It's a bullshit rule made for mindless human beings with piss poor eyesight.
So far, I have managed to keep my antiques in service-pity the day when they crap out.
