In other people’s opinion which type of exterior door is better? Steel or wood? The existing door that I will be replacing has low traffic use and faces the south.
Also, any quick tips in replacing an exisiting door.
Thanks.

After too much thought and consideration, I went with fiberglass doors made by Therma-True. The doors are well built and cost about $275 a piece. I have seen metal doors rust and wood doors get weathered, Fiberglass seems to have the advantage over both. We'll see in 30 years. Good luck.
P.S. stay away from Stanley, they really stink.
*I still like wood and especially in older situations where the jamb may be out, you can work a wooden door. Beyond that it depends on what You want and want to spend. You may find you can get a prehung unit for the same price as just the door and it may be just as easy to install as just putting in the door. Good luck Skip

I just replaced a 6068 wood (rotted) patio door with a steel Peachtree unit and I have to say that they really went out of there way to make a cheap door. I didn't buy it, only did the replacement. Was really disappointed with Peachtree. I guess next time I'm the buyer I know what not to consider.

*if doors dont get direct rain on them i would go with steel and magnetic weatherstripping.......sun light kills a wood door with south exposure....esp...in louisiana unless they are under a porch, etc....magnetic w/s on steel doors seal like a refrigerator......wood doors look the best.....if exposed to weather and sun i would go fiberglass
*If you can't use wood, fiberglass gets my vote. I haven't seen a steel door yet that I liked. They dent. They crease. They ding. They suck.
