What type of roof do we choose?

My husband and i are building a house in southern MS, approximately 5500 sq ft. We are trying to decide what type roof to choose . We are considering synthetic slate, Certaineed grand manor shangles ( that is what it’s called!), architectural shingles of different weights. Please give me some advice! jochiz2
