alan, a couple yrs ago I would say yea to the Fein.
I have been satisfied with it, quiet, never tips over, the tool actuated switch is great. Easy to clean, the long hose a real plus. But after a few years it has started to whine. I'm assuming bearings. I'm thinking it will last a good while, but she's no longer a pleasure to work with. The repair looks like 100/150. Giving serious thought to buying a Festool.

I use a Fein Turbo III. I like having the 2 1/2" hose as well as 1 1/4".
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
I had a fein turbo II. I really liked the positive hose connection, great suction power, and low noise level. I DID NOT like the fabric boot filter that came standard with it, but that is an easily upgradeable option (for more money.) We sanded a ton of drywall with it and one of my cohorts forgot to clean the thing regularly for several days. It started to operate with a very grating high end whine. Brought it to a local certified service center, and it was going to be about $250 to fix it. So it has been sitting in the garage for over a year gathering dust. I did buy a festool ct 33, and am really liking it. I have only used it as dust collection, but think it works great. The entire festool line is well designed. If you get the vac, you'll be wanting other festool stuff. If you go that route, I highly doubt you'll regret your purchase.

Isn't that what vacs are supposed to do?

Festo is one great vac. About a year and a half into regular use, i keep checking the inside filters thinking someday I'll need to do something but they're as white as new.
