We have been using gel stain “Wood Kote” cherry – really impressed with it – on doors, windows and trim in a old house strip/refinish job.
Does anybody know what’s in it (the thickening)? I was wondering if it would be possible to add your own thickener to a regular stain.
It has some smells that remind me of shoe polish (doubt that) or maybe “wool wax”.
I tried to find out the ingredients on the web and found out the fumes are bad – attack liver & urinary. They are strong – but it really wants to dry. I suppose that goes together – we’re blowing it outside.
Anybody know something about this?

Some kind of glycol? I'm just guessing.
Try knots, they know a lot about ingredients and stuff.
