I changed employers this past June and took a job with a smaller company, 8 guys, and up until this past week everything was going just fine. The last two weeks my boss asked me (really it was more like he told me)to work the weekends. I agreed but when I got my check today for those two weeks instead of getting 8 hours of time and a half for one week and ten hours of time and a half for the other I was paid straight time at my regular rate for 98 hours. I thought this was a mistake and when I brought it to my bosses attention he tried to tell me time and a half was for union carpenters. What’s the deal there I thought over 40 hours in a week was overtime no matter what the job. Now I’m also wondering what happens if I refuse to work overtime from now on. Can I be fired for refusing to work overtime? I know there are laws covering the minimum wage what about overtime? Thanks.
