Wiring a House, 3rd Edition (ISBN 978-1-56158-942-5)
Wiring Complete, Expert Advice from Start to Finish (ISBN 978-1-56158-815-2)
The Taunton Press has learned that certain diagrams in these books contain errors that in certain circumstances could result in a potential safety hazard, including electrical shock. Although there have been no reported incidents, to eliminate the risk of an incident occurring, The Taunton Press is offering its customers a full refund for both books.
So, I've got Wiring A House. How do I know if I've got the third edition? Mine just says "completely revised and updated". What were the diagrams?
k
Open the book's front cover and start turning pages. You'll get to the "?" page that has all the printing's , library of congress number, etc. In there you'll see "something edition".
you can tell I never took library science.A Great Place for Information, Comraderie, and a Sucker Punch.

Even on that page it just says: "completely rev. and updated"
I'm guessing that means it's edition two. Any word on the flaw?

I saw that posted in another forum on the 11th.
And it included this.
"The problems are with the labeling of a wiring diagram for GFCI receptacles. In the wiring a house 3rd ed, the diagram in error is on page 188.
Quote:
On page 188, in the left-hand side diagram headed “Wiring a GFCI Receptacle with Both Protected and Unprotected Cables,†the label, “To unprotected receptacles downstream†should read “To protected receptacles downstream.†Likewise, “To protected receptacles downstream†should read “To unprotected receptacles downstream.†The label “ground†points to the neutral wire, instead of the bare wire ground. In the right-hand side diagram headed “Wiring a Single GFCI Receptacle,†the labels for “neutral†and “ground†are reversed.

Bill,
What is it you do to make your copy/pastes come out like this...

I copied and pasted it from Woodnet forums.http://tinyurl.com/765rkvThe text had, inturn, been C&P from another source. I don't know where it comes from. At the time I could not find it on Taunton or CPS.Any case I went back and looked at the source that I copied. It used typographic quotes (I think that is what they are called) and used in printing. Those have a different symbol for starting quote and ending quote.Keyboards on have the single symbol that is used for both. So it is an extended symbol. Apparently there is a difference in the character sets between two systems. But I am not sure where. But you will often see similar in stuff that is C&P from text sources that are online. (IE, it was orginally "typeset".Stuff that was written for online usually just uses what is on a keyboard and you don't see this..
