My trusty old circular saw died last week. I had read two reports where the Bosch saw was rated best. I had looked at them and liked what I saw.
So today I went out to get one. Much to my surprise nobody had one. I looked at Lowes and Home Depot. I was told that they had been recalled and that they were removed from the shelves.
I looked at several saws. But I really wanted the Bosch. I finely narrowed my choice down to the Milwaukee or the Porter Cable. I was leaning towards the Milwaukee when my Wife pointed out that the Porter Cable came with a $20.00 rebate. Well I bought one, but I keep having this nagging feeling that I should have bought the Milwaukee. When I got home and opened the box, I noticed that the rip guide was not included. I often use the rip guide. I think it might go back tomorrow.

but ...
why would you believe anything U were told inside of HD or Lowes?

I bought a PC about 4 years ago.
No regrets yet and lighter than the Milwaukee. It adds up by the end of a day.
If you are talking worm-drive Bosch saws, NOTHING is wrong with them.
No, but I have noticed the big boxes don't generally carry them, even though Orange and Blue are both authorized dealers. When I went to Blue to buy my table say, they carried the Dewalt but not the Bosch. I called Orange, and they didn't stock it either. Why not? Same price as the Dewalt (which they both had in stock), and got better reviews on Amazon. So I bought it on Amazon, and paid about $100 less than the big boxes wanted anyway. But what's the deal with Bosch saws - why don't they want to stock them?
DW has a higher margin..

I have heard many times that the Dewalt tools manufactured for sale thru HD have cheaper components built into them.
You're probably on to something there. I read an article on Wal-Mart awhile back that stated that being featured in Wal-Mart stores or not can make or break a company (ex. Levi's jeans, which was about to go under before WM took them on board), so WM has incredible leverage. Which is used to force vendors to lower their prices at any cost. Hence, the pressure to outsource to child-labor mfg. from third world countries, use cheaper components, lower quality, etc.
You may not always get what you pay for, but you sure don't get what you don't pay for!
yes and isnt home depot the second largest retailer in the US after walmart? Not sure if thats true but Ive heard it a few times. Even if that number isnt correct, im sure it is the largest retailer of tools and such in the US______________________________________________

i went to hd to try and and by some bosh tools to replace my dewalt tool with and the only thing i could find was the screw gun.
on a lighter note . last x-mas wifey asked what i wanted. i said i dont know and i spouted off a buncha tools. one being the pc jointer.so she goes to hd and askes them if they have one . the guy says hmm let me check, well she came back with a plate joiner and open it up on x-mas and say its very nice but i alredy have one want i wanted looks like a planer. so i got to about 3 different hds and ask if the have them for exchange. everytime i went to the tool dept person they just kinda cocked their heads like a dog you know? and say i dont what that is. so i returned and bought it from amazon for 20 bucks less.
1st rule : never have wife buy tools without explicit instructions.
2nd rule: never let her go to hd to buy them. tyke

— Local union workers protested in front of Wal-Mart Sunday, standing under a huge inflatable rat to discourage consumers from entering the newly expanded store. The organized protesters and the 20-foot-tall inflated plastic rodent stood in the road right-of-way to display signs, shout at drivers and stop traffic to distribute fliers.“We are here to educate the public and tell Wal-Mart it is time to bring their horrible labor practices to a halt,” resident and union worker David Crislip said.Wal-Mart recently expanded into a Supercenter.

I made the statement because that was what i was told directly from reps of both Bostitch and Bosch.
"I have heard many times that the Dewalt tools manufactured for sale thru HD have cheaper components built into them. "Balderdash. If it is a model XYZ then it is a model XYZ sold by anyone else. This is the same anything that they sell. If it was otherwise it would be a nighmare for the box stores, for the other retailers, for the manufacture and for the consumer. NO ONE WOULD BE HAPPY.Now they might also have out an XYZ-2 which is different.
These are statements I've heard directly from reps of both Bostitch and Bosch on separate occassions both of which sell there products through the boxes.
Imerc is correct Im sure. Big Box stores have alot of control over companies since they can potentially sell (or chose not to stock) such a high dollar amount of product. Im sure there are many politics behind every tool in the store (and every hardware manufacturer etc..)______________________________________________

Boy that is good timing,
I just bought the cs20 circular saw with the cord lock
Sure hope there is nothing wrong with the saw.
The only thing not so great I have ever heard about it is flex in the plate.
The Mil, and the Porter Mag are also great saws.
-zen
I bought it on the recomendations of the latestcircular saw test in FHB. They rated it the best.
Id agree its a great saw, both FHB and JLC rated it the best... well I think it was FHB that had 2 authors, and the other picked the Mil.

Flex probably isnt a big issue for many people.
Obviously you didn't understand what the clerks meant to say. The Bosch saws were recalled off the shelves of HD and Lowes cuz most buyers look at price, not quality, so they (the stores) needed the shelf space for lower priced higher profit tools.
I have two left-blade PC's. An older one that has been abused, and now is used for cutting stone with a diamond blade, and a newer one that is used for cutting wood.
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.
My latest MIL. came w/o a rip guide..2 years ago..FYI.

Why look here?
Reading this I got nervous and I went to Bosch's site at http://www.boschtools.com/product-services/recall-notifications/ and it says there are no recalls now, so I'm not sure what the were telling you.
Hope this helps. Rich.
I've had a PC sidewinder for about 5 years now and never had a problem with it, on the other hand, a buddy of mine at work recently bought a new PC, after they redesigned it to have the wrenches blade change, they seem to have cheapened it a bit from what he's said...so for thats worth.
and dieselpig here has not had nice things to say about his bosch sidewinders that he's bought.
now lets talk about why your wife was with you when buying tools?
Skil and Bosch are the same thing -- just different labels. Spend a hundred or so on either, and you have a good circular saw. For my DIY stuff, I wish I'd purchased the $35 Skil saw instead of the $120 version. They both cut as well, in the short run, but the more expensive one weighs twice as much, making it less comfortable for infrequent use. My first twenty dollar Skil saw from 1973 lasted thirty years, and my current one should last as long as electricity, well beyond me.
Skil and Bosch are within the same corporate structure, but aside from the wormdrive
7 1/4 saws - there are absolutely no products which are the same with different labels.Huge diff. in quality and demographics between current Skil products and the Bosch lineup. That's like saying B&D and Dewalt products are same with diff labels. Back in the day - yes they were, but not now.As for the 30 year old Skil saw, not a one of them out today would make it that long, I'd guess. My opinion is you can't go wrong with the PC sidewinders, although mine's just before the newer wrenchless style.JT
Skil is the economy line of Bosch..
