I’m working on an apartment with steam radiators and vertical pipes for heating. What’s the best way to finish the ceiling next to the pipes? Any original escutcheons are long gone.
This summer, I ran joint compound up against the pipes. Looked great until the heat came on. Now the joints have opened up and there is a steady stream of dried mud and dust coming out of them. Someone told me to use tape next time. Will this work?
Also, one of the pipes is in the bathroom and runs into ceramic tile. I’ve tried silicone caulk around the gap, but it keeps opening up. Any suggestions for caulk that will work with bathroom moisture on one side and steam heat on the other?
