After...assuming you're using pre-hung doors, it's easier to flush the jambs to the face of the drywall...
Plus, the finish materials won't get banged up by drywallers moving material around...

Knock down steel jams before the drywall? thought thats what welded jams were for and knock down were for after drywall?

no, pony.. i think you're right, i'm wrong.. welded jambs is what i meant..
it's been about 10 years since our last one.. and i got them reversed in my thinking..
one hospital we did a lot of work for in their outpatient facilities always spec'd the welded jambs...
