I think mine goes to a drain vent stack – and I am concerned the trap at the air handler will dry out in the winter and then allow the air handler to suck sewer gas out of the sewer system.
anyone else have this same concern?????????
Is there a liquid I can put in the trap at seasons end that won’t evaporate?

Antifreeze will evaporate much more slowly than water. Salad oil wouldn't evaporate at all and is mostly harmless.
I went a different route in my own house. The vinyl tubing that drains my HRV is routed with a low spot in it to create a P-trap. It then goes into a sink tailpiece for a garbage disposal (a 5/8" barb wyes off at an angle). So even if the water in the tubing dries out, the sink P-trap is still wet and functioning. -David
*The drain should not go directly into a drain or vent. It should terminate in an air break to a drain with a P-trap (I think this is what David is saying also) That way it cannot draw sewer gas back into the AHU.
*Jim: Agreed. What I was saying was that my HRV codensate line goes through two P-trap and two air breaks. -David
*I agree, and would like to reroute mine but the nearest sink is a bath sink which has a 1 1/4 inch tailpiece and I have not seen a dishwasher tap for that size, most are for 1 1/2 inch tailpieces.so what plumbing fitting is used to get in between the lavaratory sink and the lav sink trap right below it?
