I’m using Tauntons Code Check Plumbing flip book as a guide for work I’m doing on my house.
Anyway, it contains two different codes – IRC & UPC.
Most things are similar, but venting is quite different. I asked my plumbing inspector which one applied to my case & he said New Jersey uses the National Standard Plumbing Code.
Anyway, does anyone know what the NSPC is based off of? or is the code check book pretty much useless for NSPC?

You should be able to google NJ building codes as well as the county your building in to find the real-deal answer from the source.
I did google - and they all say that NJ uses the NSPC. I asked my inspector which applies & he only answered NSPC - he didn't seem to know which one (if any) it was based off of.
All my searches for NSPC direct me to sites for purchasing code books.
I'm trying to find out if the code check book that I bought from Taunton applies to NSPC at all & if so, which column should I use (IRC or UPC).
The National Standard Plumbing Code is the Plumbing Code published by the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors-National Association. It is based on no other Code. I have a copy of the 2003 edition because I just designed a building (renovation) in Jersey.
Code Check is no substitue for having a current copy of the applicable code, especially one it does not recognize.
Thanks.
