My old Makita 8900n no longer hammers and the makita service center claims parts are no longer availible for it.
I use it only with a clay spade to dig trenches or carve out larger crawlspaces/basements and don’t know which models to consider. It looks like makita now has a model 1304 and a model 1500 and I am curious if anyone out there has experience with either of this for this type of use.
I want to emphasize the primary use of this tool is with a clay spade to dig hardpacked earth. I want to make sure whatever I buy isn’t a nightmare to lift up to chest height and it really isn’t relevant how effective it is at breaking up concrete.
Thanks for any input.
I plan to order something through amazon before they end the 50 dollar off promotion at the end of september

look into the Bosch 11245EVS, 11388, 11316EVS or the 11317EVS...
IMO the 11317 would be the way to go

I have grown so accustomed to using the 1 1/8" hex shanks that the 3/4 inch seems a bit undersized. I tend to bury the clay spade using the hammer impacts and then rock it back and forth to break out a chunk of clay.Is this acceptable practice with the smaller shank bosch demo hammers? Thanks for the reply.Karl
dunno..
never used it in your type of application...

Imerc, Thanks for the input. I went ahead and ordered the makita 35 lb hammer. Model 1304. It will use the bits I have from my previous hammer and it is priced in the mid range.($675) My only complaint with the old makita 8900 is that it stripped the drive gear on the electric motor and makita stopped selling parts for it. I don't know how old it is. I bought it from my boss twelve years ago and he probably had it for at least twelve himself. Hopefully the next one will last that long.Karl
