I would like to purchase a laser level for my DH. We will be starting the exterior decks next month along with all the interior cabinets , flooring and everything else that is require to finish the interior of the cottage
I have been reading thru the forums and have not been able to pin point which laser I should get him. He is a fine finish carpenter if this helps you decide. But ends up doing everything .
I see that the Pacific lasers are one of the best but there must be another make that compares.
thank you

Chances are, the one most recommended will be the PLS180.
It shoots a horiz and/or vert line and can be purchased as part of a kit with a detector for using it outside. Great for cabinets, shelves, trim, flooring and with the detector - decks and posts.
Runs about $240 for the laser itself or about $350 for the kit.
I don't have one, but If I were buying one - that'd be the one I'd get based on all I've heard here and at JLC forums.
Check out Coastal tool.com for ordering - they are good folks there.
Regards,
Julian
Thanks Julian Tracy, I was looking at that one and he had mentioned this one, but... wow they are expensive. I live in Ontario where the prices are even more. I will be in Cleveland next week and wondered if I should order it on line and arrange for the delivery to the hotel. Just wondered about the warrenty issue bringing it back to Canada.
If you want a lower cost alternative - Dewalt makes a horiz/vert line laser as well that can be had for about $175 or so.Not sure about the detector feature.I have a Dewalt Plumb laser and it seems very well engineered and built.I'd call PLS to figure out the warranty questions.JT
we've owned about 6-7 lasers
the last three were all the stanley big maxplumb, right angle & leveli think it runs about $200 but the big box often run specials on themMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
We also use stanley's, we use the CL-2 Self-leveling laser cross line, great value for money on this side of the pond, dont know if you can buy that model over there but we are very pleased with it.
Well, took your advise and came home last night with the PLS 180 with detector. Prices here in Toronto range from $450.00 to $600.00. Very hard to find up here, everyone was saying that these things are flying off the shelf right now. Picked this up for $450.00 even had it delivered to my work.
( Guess i might get those pictures finally hung that have been leaning against the wall for the past month.)
The 180 is a great laser. Your husband is going to be thrilled! Nice thing about PLS brand lasers is that they're fully repairable. Unlike many of the other brands that are made off-shore where replacment parts can't be had... only full units. Ya done real good. :)View Image
