which slider is better; the makita 10″ or 12″ or the dewalt 12″. I don’t like the bosch 10″ my boss has. I’m going on my own now and would like feedback from others in the finish carpentry field.

bb, take a look at the Tools section. Lotsa info there on just what you ask. Me, I've got a Hitachi. You didn't ask, but I think you should consider. Best of luck being your own boss.
*Do a lot of bookshelves? Get yourself a Hitachi 8-1/2". For crown, I much prefer a good 12" compound or the Hitachi 15" miter saws.If you just got to have a slider, the Makita 12" is a good one.Check this out for further input: BG_71 "Radial Arm Saws" 8/3/00 8:26pm
*(1) discussed at length in archives; (2) entire FHB article on this a few months back.
*I have read the artical that andrew was talking about where they rated the saws...I have the big yellow 12" scmb it's ok but I wish I would have gone with the makita 10"some draw backs with both...All depends on what you mostly use it for.Jeremy
*The Makita has drawbacks!!!...Say it aint so maan@@near the stream, seeing true blue,aj

Can new formica laminate be successfully glued over old formica laminate kitchen countertop? If so, are there any specific procedures to be used which are not obvious? Thanks.
*Go with the Milwaukee slider. Best one on the market now. New Craftsman 12 inch looks nice but have not had opprtunity to use.
*
The word Craftsman is not allowed at Breaktime or on my site if it has an electric plug attached to it...The lifetime (I've returned dozens) tape is a different story.

*I've used Makita 12" and the Hitachi 10". Go Hitachi! I don't like the horizontal handle on the yellow one. I have both the Makita and Hitachi at my disposal, and went back to using the Hitachi after using the Makita for about 6 mos. There are good things to like about both saws, but I like using the hitachi best. I wish some saw mfg. would combine the best features of all of them into one saw. I don't know why they don't. I would like to know how they go about designing a saw, sometimes it seems they try to make it different, not better, and that is the exact result.
*SteveGit seems a lot of tools are designed by engineers that played construction builing a homedepot cabinet kit and think they know all the answers. Does any tool manufacturer ever really ask a bunch of people that use tools for a living on what would be best
*Steave GActually, the one of best features of the big yellow saw is the handle...You can cut very easy with either hand and it has a big trigger so you don't have to fumble around looking for the little button to push before you pull the trigger.Another thing it has going for it is that it can cut up to 60%.Don't get me wrong, the big yellow saw has drawbacks to...The biggest being that it weighs a ton...
*Are ANY of the sliding compound miter saws accurate enough to cut miters on casing?jim "still usin' the old chop saw" blodgett
*Hi Jim,I had to do a little fine tuning to my Makita LS 1013 slider, but let me tell ya , it is dead on accurate no matter what you cut. That double bevel feature sure comes in handy when you're installing 16' lengths of 4-1/4" or taller crown, cutting it on the flat.Sounds like you all had a great time at Petefest. Sure wish I coulda been there.
*Makita LS 1013 slider, near the blue stream,aj
*Yup,The blue stream. Where the blade wears out before the the switch.
*Yup and if ya keep your wood clean that's a long long time....long times near the blue blue stream,aj
*you guys are singin' a sweet tune there, for sure. I've had nothing but good luck with my many Makita tools over the years. You missed a fun weekend Dog. Maybe next time though, huh?
