I am looking to incase my hydronic tubes over my sub floor. I just thought about using a grout mix for it’s encasement and also serve as the base for tileing and floating a wood panel floor product.
1. would 3/4″ be enough for thickness. I plan to prepare the subfloor with roofing felt then lath. Is there more I should do?
2. Is there wood like flooring that comes to mind that would work well floating over this sub floor?
Thanks from The Harv

Sorry I don't have the name of the company but I saw an ad in this months FHB with a pic of a wood froor that had the grooves built into it for the tubing...I think.
Why would you use "grout" to incase the tubes....am I missing something here? Use concrete with admix instead of water ( a 1:5 mix) and Ditra if thats the route your gonna go in.
I don't recommed wire lath for tubing heat although it can work but why take the chance now that Ditra is available. It takes the place of wire lathe. Its a fabric thats 3/8" thick and simple to install.
I don't know how thick the tubing your using is but 3/4" of concrete sounds way to thin to me.
Be well

In his first interview since the stroke, Ram Dass, 66, spoke with great difficulty about how his brush with death has changed his ideas about aging, and how the recent loss of two old friends, Timothy Leary and Allen Ginsberg, has convinced him that now, more than ever, is the time to ``Be Here Now.''

Are you talking about a finished wood floor with groves cut in the bottom to accept tubes?
I've seen and under layment of sorts, reflective metal bottom and what looked like 1x pine attached to that, made a channel for the tubes to travel in, and they company sold U pieces and bends for corners and suchView ImageGo Jayhawks..............Next Year and daaa. Blues View Image

thehary, around here, ie your application, is a "product" called Gypcrete, basically Mortor soup, pumped out of a 1 1/2" hose, installers wear shoes similiar to golf shoes. Last job I did, 2nd floor - 3/4" ply, in floor heat tubes, 1 1/2" gypcrete, carpet. Note we used up a lot of scrap to "double" bottom plate. Jim J
