I put two single swing french doors supplied by the same manufacturer (Western Building Products- a regional biggie) and they have both warped at least 3/16″, causing a gap at the weatherstrip at the upper corner opposite the hinges. The doors are fir. I had the regional rep look at them- he says they won’t replace them until they have been through an entire calendar year, as many doors that initially warp will self-correct. I’ve never heard of a door “un-warping”- anyone who can say otherwise? Thanks!

Chris,
I'd say no. But 3/16 may be correctable with some voodoo carpentry. Can you tweek the jamb, casings and stop AND keep the customer happy? Or has the sour taste already set itself in thier mouths? Between you and me, I'm not sure fir was a good choice for an exterior door.
There are tons of variables at work here. Are the revels so tight that the weatherstriping is keeping the door from seating on the stop? I wish I could see it for myself.
A large door manufacturer once told me that an 1/8" warp is within industry standards. I can deal with 1/8". 3/16" is not that far off. You might try working the door a little more before raising the red flag to your customer if it's not too late.
Sounds to me like the door rep is trying to get out of it all. I'm sure his warrenty will run out in less than a year. Who knows where he will be in a years time.
Ed.
