Hello. I do not know how to send pictures yet. I am going to learn: so, I am going to describe as best as I can. I have in my living room a wall mounted gas operated furnace. When I turn the thermostat on, and the room gets warm I hear a metal banging noise like hitting a metal with a hammer. The lower portion of the furnace is the blue flame: the upper portion is the very large metal. In HVAC language they call it the heat exchanger. The noise, I presume comes from expansion or contraction of the metal. Has this happened to you? Are there adjustable screws to allow tolerance for expansion? Thanks in advance.
Greetings from California! Merry Christmas.

One possibility is that the furance or vent was not installed properly. That part of it was installed so that the unit is twisted or that that the fasteners are too tight and don't allow for normal movement.
Get the full brand, model, and manufacture's name from the lable and see if you can find the installtion instructions on the web.

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
Thank You. I was almost sure it was the fasteners to be adjusted so there would be more tollerance or "play". I checked the web for Williams Furnace. I saw your profile, I do not know where Anchor, Dr is .What State? Thanks
I am in MO, in the Kansas City area..

just had my williams furnace on.just to let you know,i have the same noise coming out of mine for the past few years.the two others before this also had the banging.the expansion of the heat and cold.not much you can do about it.its a cheap heater and the design has been around for a long time.model #5009622.casing may be distorted by being fastened to an uneven opening or jammed under header, expansion noise.1-800 266-0993 or 1-909-825-0993.good luck
