Window install, peeling back siding?
I want to install new construction windows (anderson series 400 double hung) to replace the old andersons in my 1952 house. We have certainteed cedar perfection vinyl siding. I would want to flash over the nailing flanges so I would need to detatch the surrounding siding panels. How difficult is this? This is the part that scares me because the siding was installed over the summer…not enough $ to replace all windows then. Thought we would be going with replacements but now I am interested in the new construction windows…just think it would allow a tighter end product and also I can do 1 or 2 windows a month for affordibility. I worry about undoing the siding then getting it back on…..thoughts?
thanks! Linda

Pictures would speak a thousand words. Any chance you have pictures to upload?
Shouldnt be hard as long as the outer unit size of the windows arent changing (i.e. the siding lengths may come up short upon reinstall)
Get a vinyl siding removal tool (or a putty knife or screw driver) to pop the siding joints
Use a flat bar/pry bar to remove carefully nails then remove the siding around the window to be removed and save for reinstall (try to remember which piece went where)
Remove window, install new, flash as necessary, reinstall siding
If you need to, install exterior trim around windows before reinstalling siding, either wrap trim with aluminum or paint depending on rest of house, then cut siding to length as needed.
Hope that helps a bit.
Peeling back the siding isn't as big an issue as making sure the rough openings are the correct size.
It's frustrating, lots of pictures at home. This is all I have (at, um...cough, work). Thanks for the encouraging words...Windows are standard sizes stocked at a local supplier. First is of the lower level windows original then a corner of the finished siding then the gable end of the house with lower level window proposed to be finished. I realize these are pretty useless because they don't show any finished siding/window shots.
