Hello. Well getting ready to install my windows in the new addition. I have felt paper over the OSB. Do I need to add any other type of weather barrier when I install the new windows? The install instructions for the windows show a “house wrap” type of barrier and it shows how to cut it etc. Since I only have felt do I cut it the same way or should I add something else? The instructions show a flexible flashing also to use along the sill and to cover the flanges. Also what nails should I use on the flanges? These windows are vinyl.
Thanks

Roofing nails Chief?I have the install manual but it does not say house wrap or felt etc. it just states weather barrier. Can I use wrap over the felt?

I would use Tyvek Flex wrap on the sill.

Then install your window with roofing nails.
Then use straight wrap by Tyvek dwn the sides.
The you can straight wrap the top of the window to the OSB, then fold your tar paper own onto the top of the window.
In review flange goes over wrap on the bottom. Flange goes under the wrap at the top. Tar paper goes over the flange at the top.
I use Tyvek . we cut the Tyvek flush with the framing at the top, slit each corner at a 45 and fold it up. Install flex wrap on sill, install window, flash sides and top then fold Tyvek down and tape it with a couple of 1" gaps in the seams to allow water to escape if it makes it behind the Tyvek.
Weather barrier or water resistant barrier are fancy names for house wrap, tar paper and Tyvek. Here is Tyvek's site for flashing before house wrap.

Yes
I always wrap 1st then install flashing and windows.
Pictures are from a repair job.
Tyvek also has a site with instructions for wrap 1st, flash 2nd

Thanks Rich. Just staple the wrap just like felt? How many nails per window?
blown
The wrap is peel and stick, you won't have time to staple.
Put a nail in every slot.
Might want to use a couple of screws until you know the window is set just right.
Or if you can't hit the nail without damageing the window.
Of course us pros never miss. LOL

Don't forget to caulk the flanges. We nail ervery 3rd hole. Shoot vinyl isn't that heavy.
I would still look up the window man. online for there online install guide. Just to make sure.
Will do guys. Thanks
