G’day. I’m going to be installing a window into a 2×4 wall. The installation procedure, i.e. rough opening/code requirements, etc., is not a problem. However, what to do with the exterior siding is(X90). Do I remove the siding from above the window to below it, or can I cut the exact size opening through the siding and just trim back for the nailing flange. If removing the siding is the prefered procedure, what is the best procedure for doing this. Thank You.

Mike, you did'nt say if this was to be a new window opening or a replacement window... anyhow, you say you have the header, jack studs and sill framing taken care of.
How do you plan to trim the window? Brick moulding? 5/4x? Nothing (that is to say that the siding will run to the extended exterior jamb)?
Give us a few more details here...
Helpfully, Steve
p.s., what is X90 siding?
*Mike, If the siding is the only issue with the window install, you can easily cut back the siding to compensate for a brickmolding trim, as long as your siding is not vinyl or metal. By allowing enough clearance around the exterior jamb for your brickmolding, you easily leave enough room for nailing flanges and can cleanly trim out your new window and finish it off with "Big Stretch" caulk and paint. Don't forget to caulk behind your nailing flanges when you set the window and center everything in the opening. Good luck.
