Once upon a time, I believe about 1-1/2 to 2 years ago, I read in the printed “Breaktime” discussions, about someone who knew of a product I’m interested in. This is a plastic window track for upgrading old double hungs, or even using them for new construction. I plan to take some thermal pane sashes out of existing windows that are being removed as part of a renovation and use them in window sahes and frames that I plan to make.
Anyone remember or know of such a product?

Sounds like a bit of work. I have a source for misc. window/door hardware that may help your efforts. Strybuc industries (800)352-0800 or http://www.strybuc.com, this company has most every window glide you could imagine. I have even used an Invisible balance system on cabinet doors, that glide up into a pocket behind an upper cabinet. This reveals a pass through to a dining room.
Check out Strybuc Ind. you'll be glad you did.
I remember posting a reply to a similar question a while back. The products are called "jamb liners" and one type is a metal track which wraps around the sashes, and the parting bead is spring loaded to keep a good air seal. The company used to distribute thru lumberyards, the thru HD under the name "window fixer" or something like that. A web search turned up this link http://www.windowrenu.com/main/default.asp which looks like what I remember from last time I used them about 10 years ago. They worked well on windows where the wood was old so I did not want to replace the sashes but still be able to get a good seal. You can barely see them once the stops are back in.
Hope this helps. Rich.
Thanks, guys. This is exactly what I was looking for.
