white vinyl... has a longer life than colored vinyl...
most vinyl will have a better long term performance than alum...
but...
brand specific counts..
in other words a good alum . window will beat a bad vinyl window.. and vice versa..
my opinion.. a good vinyl will beat a good alum..
(ps. my favorite brand is Andersen ..wanna save money ? ask about the Builder's Select series at a preferred Andersen dealer)
*Alum. clad wood. Pella Proline bought at HD or Lowes.
*easy answerneitheruse Anderson aluminum clad wood for your area
*I just don't like vinyl, can't tell you why just don't, not for windows. I'd reccomend the aluminum clad windows too if you can afford them. If, you go with solid aluminum though, beware aluminum transfers heat well, i.e. sweating during cold weather.
*I agree, Piffin. Fiberglass is the better answer. Take a look at the Integrity (Marvin) wood clad... real wood inside and fiberglass outside. F/G has approximately the same expansion as that of glass...so they don't create stress and potential breakage of seals. Great window for the price! However, don't expect any custom sizes, or the like, as the price is low because they stick to the product line.
*b The dirt guyI put Vision 2000 vinyl windows in my last house andloved them. Big selection, great quality, no morewater running down the frames in winter (Colorado)Aluminum is so yesterday! Put cheaper Western vinyl windows in this house cause we need to move soon ie. I don't love this house like the last one.
