I would like to know, what is the difference in windows? I’m getting ready to install some windows and I was talking to a friend, and he recommended Millguard windows. I told him that I was going with the HD window. I told him that I would check them out. $300.00 For the Millguard. And $120.00 for the Viking.(at Home Depot) I can live with the Viking. I need 8. What would be the difference? Both are the same. Except the Viking is vinyal. And the Millguard is vinyal clad. Why such a big difference Hat

Why the difference?
to quote your question: "the Viking is vinyal. And the Millguard is vinyal clad"
four letters. clad.
The clad windows have a core of wood, which some people think adds considerable strength. The vinyl-only are plastic extrusions. They have come a long way, but some people still don't trust them. Generally speaking, Home Depot products do not get good reviews from frequent posters here, and sometimes that reputation is deserved. They tend to sell what fits their profile, not necessarily what is best for your application.
Milgard has two vinyl lines, Classic and Styline. They also have their Wood Clad which is a extruded fiberglass with a douglas fir veneer on the interior. The Viking (which is now owned by Pella) vinyl units are similar to the two Milgard units in that they are vinyl extrusions.
Viking use to be a good product but they have slipped a lot over the last 5 years and Pella hasn't stopped the slide. The only Milgard product I'd allow in my house would be the Classic. The Styline is a tract builders window, light weight extrusions, uneven sight lines, just a cheap product for a "price is all that matters" market. The Wood Clad is a poor excuse for a wood window and it usually more expensive than a good quality aluminum clad wood unit. When is Masco (they own Milgard) going to wake up and dump it?
From the looks of it you live in the North West. There are lots of choices out there equal to Milgard at a lower cost. Check around with local window dealers, that have a showroom and several different manufactures to offer.
The average vinyl window with all the bells and whistles should cost around $250.
Good Luck!
What part of the country are you in? If in the southern Cal area Window Master is a very good window and is in the home depots here. The windows are white vinyl, and all new windows should come with screens as well. These are stock window with low E glazing & very energy efficient with good shading coefficient.
The Milgard windows are a equal in quality in my eye to the Window Master, but I like the brass rollers better on the Window Master. Very smooth operation.
Also its important as to the warrantee on the Viking and how fast can you get customer service from the factory. both window Master and Milgard have very good customer service at a local level here on the west coast.
Also are the windows you are replacing retro fits or total replacement with a nail on flange?.
Also remember the window sizing is width First then the height. This is very Important Don't get this reversed!! or you may be eating your window order??
Good luck

I agree that Windowmaster is an excellent product. One correction, Windowmaster uses a machined Delrin roller on all windows, doors have stainless steel. Home Depot does carry Windowmaster in So Cal-Las Vegas and Arizona. I wouldn't buy through them if possible. You'll generally get as good or better price from a local dealer with much better service.
