i really need some opinions about selecting windows. i want simulated divided light with an eliptical top. currently pricing Caradco and Kolbe & Kolbe. the Marvin rep told me he would be probably 10K more which is way out of my budget. what are your opinions of the two companies mentioned. this is a big chunk of money and i would appreciate any help you can provide. also can anyone give me a short education about the technical aspects of windows. i can compare price quotes on style but in order to choose the “best” value, what do i need to look for as far as energy efficiency ratings. thanks for any help you can provide.

Try this article for understanding windows:

*There's expensive windows and cheaper windows. They all fail at some point and have to be replaced. Trying to measure the difference between argon and whatever is like measuring the difference between two peas. There must be a difference but will you notice when you eat them.Windows that open outward don't usually last as long as those that open upward or inward.Get the best deal you can and be happy. If there was only one way to look at windows, there would only be one company selling them.Gabe
*If one of your window bids is going to be 10 grand more than another one, and you can't afford it, you have too many windows in your house.
*We use Caradco on every house unless a customer wants to request a different brand and pay the difference if any. They're a very good product with good customer service.John
*Av,Ten years ago I sold my first Kolbe & Kolbe job...it was my last. There were problems that the owner still calls about but can never get the rep to do anything. Maybe it is the distributor/rep that is difficulty?I've sold Caradco for a long time...my sales rep is my key to good service and he is "The Best". Caradco is a very servicable brand---check out the servicing distributor's rep...ask to meet him and size him up for honesty and integrity. The Marvin rep was ok but often stubborn and difficult. The Andersen folks were good until they went to their own stores rather than independent dealers...........................Iron Helix
