I have a client that started a pretty ambitious addition, but wishes to put the project on hold with the option of restarting the project in the spring. Approximately 20o feet of footer are in place in the excavated areas. Some or all of them will be used eventually.
I am concerned about the frost heave here in PA damaging the footers and would like to insulate and cover them. I guess I could just backfill them but I would like to make excavating the footers in the spring easier. We have consdered insulating the forms with hay, covering with poly and then a few feet of dirt on top of that.
I know this is unusual (Don’t ask!), but I was hoping some of you fellas might have some input on this. The frost isn’t quite on the pumpkin yet, but will be soon, so I gotta move fast.
By the way, option one is pour the walls then backfill, but I need a contingency plan.
Any thoughts appreciated,
Thanks,
Tom
