Good day all – I’ve been intending to convert my current wood burning fireplace to an open gas log fireplace. I’ve purchased and 45K+ BTU vented gas log set that has a burner plate and regulator but have yet to run gas to it since the basement project has not started.
My house is 1955 wood frame ranch with a fully functional fireplace on the main floor. I question whether the gas line should run into the fireplace from below it or outside the house and in from the side of the fireplace. The space directly below the fireplace is accessible since it’s above a closet space in the basement so I could run a gas line into the bottom of the fireplace as well as set a shut off valve on the floor. The only city building restriction I can find is the distance of the shut off valve from the fireplace. Is there anything else I should plan for? Does the gas line into the firplace have to be placed below a fire plate or something?
Any suggestions or guidance on this would be much appreciated!
