Hello All,
I’ve bought an old double brick home in east Toronto. I’d like to add a wood porch to the front and deck to the back, then stucco the house using 1-1/2″ insulation under the finish.
How should I detail the ledger board application? Can it be installed after the stucco work? That would seem weak. But before negates some insulation properties. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance,
Eric

An alternative to the ledger board would be to pour piers/footings adjacent to the house and thereby eliminating a structural connection to the house and the challenges associated with that.

That sounds good for the rear deck, but how the front porch roof ledger can be installed without heat loss seems tricky.
Thanks,
Eric
Could you post a picture of what the front porch area look like?
Independent supports means no penetration for heat loss to occour.

I would do the insulation and stucco first.
Then build the porches and decks with independent support so as not to penetrate the surface. That saves a lot of flashing details( cost) and chances for water to get, freeze and destroy your stucco job or to enter the building and cause mold problems.

I would add it before the stucco, so you can get a better flashing detail. Or what Piffen said.
