I have a customer who wants to do this type of wall covering in her new condo. This picture was taken in the model and it looks like 1/2″ plywood rectangles cut on a diagonal, finished, and attached to the wall.
I could make this, but suspect that it can be bought. Anyone know of a supplier?

Can't tell by the photo, but could it be parquet flooring pieces stained real dark? Seen that done on walls, but never that color...
usually it is custom laid up panels of matching veneer. Try calling Certainlly Woods (I think they are the ones in San Fran area), they might be able to direct you to a shop to make them.
They are usually all pressed from one log flitch.
There is a guy in Santa Ana, Ca that can do it. The owners name is Curly, I just can't remember the company name. It's been a few years. I'll try to remember and get back to you. He will start from raw veneer, press them, stroke sand them smooth, and cut to size. I think he will ship, maybe not.
with a Vaccuum press and paper backed veneer, you can do it yourself. It's not hard, just the thickness of some of the veneer sheets make sanding almost impossible.
I can make them easily enough, but thought it might save the customer a few bucks if I could find them commercially.

I'm assuming that those around 3'x6'? How do you cut that from a standard sheet of ply? Or are you making your own veneers?
I'll have to measure them, but IIRC they're closer to 20" x 24". Making them is easy, but it will take boucoup sheets of plywood since they're cut at 45*.
I don't know what you would buy prefabbed, unless you order them custom made (ie, darned expensive). You would want the wall evenly divided and thus, will need very specific dimentions. What you're doing there is custome work, so I hope you're chargeing accordingly. =)~ Ted W ~

My primary business is designing and building custom cabinets and furniture, so making these panels won't be all that difficult - just expensive. - lolThe customer and I thought it was worth checking to see if these were commercially available, but they aren't. She talked to the developer yesterday and was told that the panels were custom made for the model, so that's what we'll do.
I have found that having them layed(laid) up to size is cheaper and you will get a better grain/flitch match. Less veneer waste, and better veneer quality.
The people that I outsourced with would have end clippings that size left over. Cash always help for a motivation on smaller jobs.
When I've worked on production sites, ie, condo. projects, the builder usually options out the model in hopes of selling those features to prospective buyers. If this is an on going project ask the folks in the model about this feature, or look for the trim contractor on site and speak to him.
