How in the world do we finish this fireplace front? This is before final inspection so everything would have to be to code for NC. Right now just sheet rock surrounds it and is flush with the front. It is wood burning. We plan on using brick veneer for the wall section up to the mantle and regular brick for the hearth. Can the bricks overlap the edges of the fireplace? Do we have to install cement board under the brick?

Keeping HVAC systems within the conditioned enclosure can be tough without a basement; one option is to use plenum trusses for the roof, which offer a space for equipment and ductwork.

I hope this isn't overly simplistic, but did you check the installation manual for your manufactured fireplace? I know the one I'm looking to install dictates front face materials.
After posting this- yes. It did answer some questions. Still not sure about the cement board and exactly how to go about that. The builders should have installed the sheetrock right up to the edge with no gaps and we probably could do veneer only. Anyway, thinking we might just do the minimum and finish it after inspection.
