A customer of mine has a woodpecker who’s been hammering holes in the side of her house since the summer. The house is sided with red cedar shingles and painted. The holes are all located in the same general area and penetrate through to the sheathing in most cases. She had a painter fill the holes with a hard putty at the end of the summer and since then there are about 25 to 30 new holes.
From what I understand this is a mating thing and it seems to be working for him because he’s relentless (must be a teenager).
The house is in a residential neighborhood so shooting it is out of the question, I don’t think the owner would condone it anyway. She tried to spray it with a garden hose but the little bugger is too quick and probably wouldn’t care much if it did get wet.
I’ll be replacing all of the shingles in a couple days but I don’t know how to stop him from continuing his destruction.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
