OK, I’m not a builder like the rest of you. But I’ve been “fine homebuilding” on a small scale lately. Is there anyone else here who works in 1/12 scale?

What the heck are you talking about? Doll houses, Architectural models? 1/12 scale plans?
Jon
I'm guessing, based on the scale, that we're talking doll houses. My father built a really cool 3/4" Ply 3 story condo for my older sister's Barbie when we were kids. It was about the only Barbie thing she had that I thought was pretty cool.
I do a few architectural models when the project calls for it. I usually work in mat board at 1/4" or 1/8" scale depending on the size of the project. It's a nice distraction from the usual grind for a couple of weeks.
Ellenvic, I would like to see some pics of your 1/12th scale architectural modeling if you have some available. Might be an interesting "design ideas" thread.Kevin Halliburton

Sorry, didn't mean to be cryptic! Doll houses, basically. Built one 20+ years ago that I was real happy about, sold it at a garage sale to make ends meet about 10 years ago.
Got a kit for a 4' tall lighthouse right after Christmas, built it and fitted it out as if I were going to escape and live in it. It's bascially "done," but there's no end to the tweaking.
Started another kit in March, a log home from Real Good Toys in Vermont. My sister lives in a log home in NH, and I'm customizing this somewhat as I go, to make it similar to hers in some ways and add features she'd like in the real house.
Like real projects, these seem to go on and on. The log home will take a long time because of some of the plans I have for it. At the same time, I'm looking ahead and thinking that the next one I build will be from scratch, not from a kit.
Aside from a great way to relax after a day at work in an office, this dollhouse business is the best excuse for buying tools and stuff that I've come across in a long time!

That actually does sound like a neat hobby. If you have a digital camera, you should post a few pics. The plus is you probably have less dirt and dust compared to the real thing.

There are now some photos in the Photo Gallery. I document these projects as I go along, and have a couple of albums on ofoto. To see these, send and email and I'll send a link from ofoto.
