I hope this question hasn’t been
beaten to death recently.
I’m coverting a 15×22′ portion of
my garage (38’x22′) into a little
woodworking shop, and need some
advice on flooring. I’d love to
do subfloor and 3/4″ oak but for
the cost. Has anyone laid commercial
vinyl (rated for light industrial)
on a concrete slab? How was the installation
and did you like it as a shop floor?
Thanks.

why not just leave it concrete, maybe even paint it if you want a surface that is easier to clean up. Otherwise, I have installed a lot of VCT over concrete and it works splendidly but you will have to be able to buff and wax it every so often or it gets real ugly after a while. I might stay away from wood over the concrete.

Ditto Pete. Leave it concrete. Get a few sponge pads to stand on while you work, and spend your time and money on woodworking! The best reason to paint is to improve lighting/cleanliness.

I'd go for wood, but not oak. Wood is great to work on and is easy on dropped tools. Have a local sawyer cu you some wide white pine, nail it down and step back 140 years. (hold tight onto your router, those molding planes were terrible)
